What Do We Do at Sahand?

The Sahand Mechanical Splices Company, as the pioneer of the mechanical rebar splicing industry in Iran, has been committed to enhancing the quality and safety of construction and infrastructure projects through the design, manufacturing, and development of innovative rebar connection solutions for more than three decades.

The company was established in 1997 under the management of Engineer Gholamhasan Habibnejad. In 2003, with a strong focus on research and development, it entered the field of mechanical rebar splicing. In less than two years, by launching its coupler production line and obtaining the necessary certifications, the company played a significant role in introducing and advancing mechanical splicing systems within Iran’s construction industry.

Today, Sahand Mechanical Splices operates an integrated supply chain within Iran through its mechanical splicing manufacturing facility, rebar threading production lines, machinery design and manufacturing unit, specialized tool production, and mobile rebar threading teams. This integrated structure not only ensures consistent product quality but also enables the company to provide accurate, efficient, and project-specific services.

The products of Sahand Mechanical Splices are manufactured in accordance with the Iran Concrete Code, the National Building Regulations of Iran, and internationally recognized standards, including ACI, UBC, and BS. The company has also obtained approval from the Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center, the Iranian National Standard certification, and internationally recognized quality management certifications, reflecting its commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

One of Sahand’s most significant achievements is the design and manufacture of its proprietary rebar threading machines, which have been granted a patent certificate. These machines use a mechanical threading process to produce precise and durable threads without reducing the cross-sectional area or strength of the rebar, playing a vital role in improving the quality of mechanical splices.

Sahand's rebar threading machines are designed and manufactured by the company's engineers and, utilizing proprietary technology, perform threading operations without reducing the strength of the rebar.

The rebar threading machines of Sahand Mechanical Splices have obtained patent certificates after being designed and manufactured. The threading process at the end of the rebar is performed by these machines. One of the most important features of these machines is that the threading process is carried out through a mechanical forming method rather than a cutting process, resulting in the threaded section maintaining strength equivalent to the original rebar strength. The threading operation is completed in less than one minute, and on average, each machine is capable of producing 350 threaded rebars during a working shift.

The threads created by Sahand Mechanical Splices machines are direct threads, providing maximum strength. After threading, the created thread is protected against potential damage by using a protective cap. The products of Sahand Mechanical Splices are manufactured in accordance with Type 2 of ACI 318. This type of mechanical splice (including coupler and rebar), in addition to withstanding a minimum strength equal to 1.25Fy, has the capability to withstand the specified ultimate strength of the rebar. Therefore, as explicitly stated in the aforementioned code, the use of Type 2 mechanical splices is permitted in any location of the structure.

One of the most important policies of Sahand Mechanical Splices for ensuring product quality is that threading services without couplers and the sale of couplers separately are not possible. This means that Sahand-manufactured couplers must be installed exclusively on threads created by Sahand machines and produced by the company’s trained operators.
