Rebar Threading
To connect a coupler to a reinforcing bar, the reinforcing bar must first be threaded.
As you know, a coupler is a device used to connect reinforcing bars together. In this method, the threaded end of the reinforcing bar engages with the thread inside the coupler, and the two reinforcing bars are connected to each other by the coupler.
The reinforcing bars are threaded using the machines manufactured by Sahand Mechanical Splices at the Sahand factory, and the reinforcing bars are then shipped to the project site together with the couplers.
Product Description
Rebar Threading
To use a coupler in a structure, the reinforcing bars must be threaded in advance so that they can be connected to the coupler. A thread refers to the helical grooves on a bolt and inside a nut, which, when the bolt is rotated into the nut, cause them to be fastened securely together. The use of a coupler follows a similar principle. Threads are formed on the reinforcing bar, and matching threads are provided inside the coupler. By screwing the reinforcing bars into the coupler, a strong connection is established between the two reinforcing bars and the coupler.
The resulting connection is so strong and reliable that it is as if the two reinforcing bars have become a single continuous bar with no joint between them. Furthermore, in tests performed on this connection, all specimens withstand loads equal to the nominal tensile strength of the reinforcing bars, and the performance of reinforcing bars connected by a coupler is no different from that of a continuous reinforcing bar.
Rebar Cutting Operation
The procedure for delivering reinforcing bars for threading at the Sahand Mechanical Splices factory is as follows:
Upon notification of the arrival of the reinforcing bar shipment at the factory, our staff contacts the customer and receives confirmation of the delivery. Then, our Quality Control Department inspects the condition of the reinforcing bars, and if any problems are found (such as bar curvature, cross-sectional deformation, cracks, etc.), the customer will be informed.
The delivered shipment is then weighed using the weighbridge of the Board of Trustees of Parand Industrial Town. After counting the number of reinforcing bars, the shipment is unloaded at the Sahand Mechanical Splices factory. The transport vehicle then returns to the weighbridge for an empty-weight measurement.
The delivered shipment is tagged, coded, and stored in the designated warehouse area. After receiving the customer’s order list, the reinforcing bars are transferred to the cutting line, where they are cut according to the drawings provided by the client. The cut reinforcing bars are then transferred to the threading section for the next stage of production.
Rebar Threading Using the Machine Manufactured by Sahand Mechanical Splices
At this stage, the cut reinforcing bars are ready for the threading process and prepared for the next production stages. Rebar threading at the Sahand Mechanical Splices factory is carried out using machines designed by the company’s engineers and patented by Sahand Mechanical Splices.
The operators at Sahand Mechanical Splices perform the threading process in two forms: standard and long thread. In the standard method, the thread length is produced according to the calculated dimensions (the minimum required thread length). However, if the reinforcing bar is intended for applications such as bolts or soil nailing, where a longer thread is required, the threading is carried out according to the custom thread length specified by the customer.
Rebar threading at the Sahand Mechanical Splices factory is performed by the cold rolling (forming) method, rather than by machining (material removal). As a result, the diameter of the threaded section remains the same as the rest of the reinforcing bar, and the strength of the reinforcing bar is preserved.
Delivery of Threaded Reinforcing Bars to the Customer
At this stage, in order to increase work efficiency and ensure the best possible result in connecting reinforcing bars, a plastic protective cap is placed over the threaded end of each reinforcing bar after the threading operation is completed. This cap prevents dust and foreign particles from entering the threaded section and keeps the threads clean. In this way, the highest quality mechanical connection using Sahand Mechanical Splices couplers is ensured.
After the threading operation is completed, the reinforcing bars are bundled and marked with a special tag containing the bundle information, and then loaded. The loaded reinforcing bars are reweighed and, in coordination with the customer, are delivered to the project site together with the relevant documentation.
